Lynn Arthur Wegener
passed unexpectedly while
enjoying one of his favorite pastimes—biking
with people he loved. Born
November 23, 1945 in
Aberdeen SD, he moved to
Port Angeles WA and graduated from the University of
Washington with a degree
in business finance. Lynn
served in Vietnam and received several decorations including the Bronze Star Medal
and Purple Heart. In 1971 Lynn moved to Juneau Alaska.
His plan to stay one year turned into 45.
In Alaska, he built a community of family and friends
while pursuing outdoor adventure and photography, especially in Denali. Lynn’s life was one of service. Whether
it was mentoring fellow photographers, doing more than
his fair share on a camping trip or advancing the mission
of the municipalities and nonprofits where he worked.
During Lynn’s career, The State of Alaska, Municipality of
Anchorage and Providence Health and benefited from his
high ethical and professional standards. Lynn had been an
Endowment Trustee of Anchorage Senior Center.
Lynn built close relationships. A person of deep integrity, humility and curiosity, he was generous in spirit, care
and time. His baritone laugh is emblazoned in the memory
of all who knew him. Whenever a problem arose, Lynn was
often the first person people turned to. Lynn kept his family
and friends connected to one another throughout the years.
The roles that brought out the best in Lynn were those
of parent and partner. His daughter Jessica learned to love
many outdoor sports with Lynn. He shined as a husband
to his wife Karen. Lynn and Karen took much pleasure in
exploring the world - by plane or camper. While Lynn had
many professional accomplishments as a finance leader and
an avid outdoor photographer, it was not what he did, but
who he was that leaves an indelible hole in the hearts of all
who knew him.
He leaves behind his wife Karen Combs of Grand
Junction CO, siblings Clarice (Ron Bartels), Kent (Carol),
Loren (Gail) and stepsiblings Steve Vining (Karen) and
Carol Lott; plus, members of the Beedle family, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends he considered family.
Lynn is preceded in death by his daughter Jessica
Wegener, ex-wife Joy Beedle, parents Rev. Ralph Wegener
and Hertha Droegemueller, stepmother Bernice Wegener,
stepsister Mary (Sam) and step brother-in-law Edward.
A service will be in Alaska in 2024. Donations in
Lynn’s memory should be made to covenanthouse.org or
beanscafe.org/the-childrens-lunchbox/ in Anchorage.
