David Calvin Crockett
passed peacefully in his
sleep October 11th, 2022,
at age 97. David was a
WW-II veteran, and spent
his final years in Grand
Junction, CO.
He grew up in London, England and, at fourteen his
house was bombed in a German air raid. His family was
forced to move to his grandparent’s home, and shortly
thereafter, he and his two older brothers were evacuated
to farms outside the city.
Upon graduation, Dave enlisted in the Royal Air
Force. A year later he transferred to the American 8th
Army Air Corps, and was trained as a gunner in B-17s
and B-25 aircraft.
Following the war, Dave met his future wife Melvean
Smith. They married June 6th, 1947; raising three
children in the Washington D.C./Maryland area. They
were married for fifty-one years, until Melvean’s death
in a traffic accident in 1998. Dave later married Faye
Sowell and resided in Georgia until her death in 2017.
Dave is survived by his three children: James David
Crockett of Kailua, Hawaii; Carol Anne Crockett of
Grand Junction, Colorado; and Kenneth Crockett of
Austin, Texas.
