Shirley was born in
Pittsfield, Massachusetts
September 5, 1936, to
Kenneth and Mary Ann Norton. She joined the U.S.
Navy in 1954(November 1954 - September 1956)
becoming a member of the Waves Drill Team, Great
Lakes Illinois. She married Edward Heimer on January
28, 1956, and had two children; Katherine, born May
7, 1957, and Michael, born March 31, 1959. She later
married Robert Kahler on September 28, 1979.
She and Robert moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, in
1995, where they lived happily for the last 27 years. She
was an avid volunteer at the Veteran’s Administration
Hospital in Grand Junction for 18 years and was also a
member of and volunteered for the Orchard Mesa Lions
Club for 14 years. She was a loving wife and mother.
Her favorite pastimes included traveling, fishing, and
playing bingo and poker.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Robert Kahler,
of Grand Junction, Colorado; siblings, James Norton,
and Donna Norton Kane, of Massachusetts, and
Maureen Graves, of Desert Hot Springs, California;
daughter, Katherine Cotter (Ed), of Collbran, Colorado;
son, Michael Heimer (Liz Libman), of San Pedro,
California; the Pike, Montrose, and Boyda families; five
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and a niece.
Services will be in Grand Junction Friday, March 25,
2022. Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church
at noon. Internment, with full Military Honors, will
follow at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
