Richard Allen Bourg,
age 72, passed away
December 16, 2021. He
was born February 4,
1949, in Fruita, Colorado,
to Reynaud and Marjorie
Bourg. Rich graduated
from Fruita High School
in 1967. He received an
associates degree from
Mesa College in December
of 1969 and then joined the
Army Reserves. After leaving the Army, Rich spent
many years building his career in the oil and gas industry
and as an entrepreneur. After his official retirement, he
performed consulting for his former employer which
gave Rich and Costa the opportunity to live a number
of places outside of Colorado while maintaining their
home in Grand Junction. They enjoyed their travels but
were always ready to come back home.
Mary Costella Bourg, age 70, passed away December
20, 2021. She was born September 5, 1951, in Grand
Junction, Colorado, to Vernon and Mary Watson. Costa
graduated from Fruita High School in 1969. In addition
to raising their children, she enjoyed making jewelry,
taking art classes and making their house a home where
everyone felt welcome. She always had a fully stocked
craft room that could satisfy any creative idea.
Rich and Costa met in junior high school. He always
told the story of seeing her walking across campus and
she smiled at him. That was all it took. They married
July 17, 1969. They have three amazing children, Risha
(Jason), Miranda (Andy) and Greg (Marla).
They had full lives but their greatest accomplishment
(and the one they were most proud of) was being the
world’s greatest grandparents (aka Papa and Bobo) to
Austin (Cherith), Natalie (Aaron), Raeleigh (Garrett),
Kila, Taylor, Jerah, Garrett, Connor, Colton and
Makaydee, and great-grandparents to Asher and
Dawson.
Papa and Bobo spent a lot of time teaching their
grandkids woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing,
cooking, house remodeling, painting, drawing, sewing
and how to get on their parents’ nerves. The grandkids
learned so many life skills (mostly valuable). Papa and
Bobo were truly inspiring teachers.
They also both loved Jesus and the body of Christ.
They were very active in church and spent many years
on committees, boards, leading Bible study and greeting
people as they came into the building to worship.
Rich and Costa were preceded in death by Reynaud,
Marjorie, Vernon, and their granddaughter, Jacinda. In
addition to their kids, grandkids and great-grandkids
they are survived by mother, Mary Hoppe; brother,
Larry Watson; sisters, Deanna (Bobby) Gobbo, Judy
(Jimmy) Young, Vernetta Edwards, many nieces,
nephews and life-long friends.
A memorial service is planned for March 18, 2022,
10:00 a.m., at Stillwater Cowboy Church, 968 19 Road,
Fruita, Colorado. Memorial contributions can be made
to Stillwater Cowboy Church or use the money to create
a special memory with a child, grandchild or someone
who needs cheering up.
