A PIONEER OF BASALT DIES
---
L. R. Tucker, a pioneer of Pitkin and Eagle counties, died January 15, at his home in Basalt from valvular heart trouble.
Mr. Tucker was 74 years of age last month. He came to Leadville with the first seekers after wealth in 1874 and later found his way to Pitkin county, being present at the big rush which brought Aspen to the notice of the mining world.
During his residence in the Western Slope, Mr. Tucker was engaged in mining, farming, and the mercantile business. For several years Mr. and Mrs. Tucker lived quietly in their comfortable home in Basalt. Mr. Tucker was ailing but a few days before the end came. -Glenwood Post
Mr. Tucker was buried at Glenwood, the funeral services being held at the home of his brother, R. H. Tucker, Sunday afternoon.
