Sara A. (Annie) Thomson, a longtime resident of Vail, passed away after a prolonged struggle ALS.
Annie was born Nov. 4, 1936, in San Antonio to Paul and Rosalie Camper. She died Tuesday at Vail Valley Memorial Center.
The bulk of her childhood was spent in Arvada, where she attended Arvada High School. In addition to regular courses, she participated in musical stage plays and operettas.
After graduating from Arvada High, she married Max Coats. From this union, two children were born. Years later, after a divorce, she married Max Thomson and lived in Australia for seven years.
Returning to Vail after his death, she worked 16 years as receptionist at 1stBank of Vail until shortly before her death.
Annie will be remembered for her love of Colorado, mountains, cooking singing, camping, volunteer work in her church and her birthday yodel for fellow workers on their birthday.
Preceding her in death was her father, mother, a sister and a son, John, of Arvada.
Survivors include her longtime companion, Lonnie Spence, from Wilsonville, Neb.; and son Mike Coats, daughters-in-law Bonnie and granddaughters Arielle and Kelsey, of Northglenn.
Memberships included Army Veterinarian Wives Associations and many positions in the local Episcopal Church.
Memorial services will be held at the Vail Interfaith Chapel on Monday 9:30 a.m. with reception to follow. Graveside services and internment will be later that same day at 3 p.m. at Arvada Cemetery.

All of us who knew Annie and feel the void of her passing are comforted by the fact that she touched all of us with her grace, her courageous spirit and her unflinching belief that we are all God's children.
