Grand Junction Daily Sentinel page 5B Obituary - June 4, 2015

Charles "Dennis"
Scott
May 9, 1933 - May 30, 2015
Dennis was born May 9,
1933, in Grand Junction, CO
to Marvel Ellen and Charles
Ralph Scott. He passed away
peacefully in his home on
May 30th.
Dennis graduated from Central
High School where he
was recognized for his achievements
in basketball and baseball. After attending classes at
Mesa Junior College, he enlisted in the United States Navy.
Upon return from boot camp, he married his high school sweetheart,
Marilyn Heiland.
While stationed in Japan and Turkey, Dennis and Marilyn
adopted a son, Dan, and a daughter, Linda. Soon after, Karen
was born. He served 20 years in the military with Marilyn and
his children accompanying him to bases in Japan, Turkey,
Spain, and various cities in the United States. Dennis took great
pride in serving on multiple lengthy submarine missions. He
had much respect for his detachment and went above and beyond
to show them his appreciation. Dennis retired Master
Chief after declining a position in Washington D.C., with the National
Security Administration.
Dennis and Marilyn returned to Grand Junction to raise their
family. Dennis worked 20 years for the US Postal Service. He
was passionate about going to work each day and looked forward
to seeing his co-workers and customers, many of whom became
close friends. During this time, he and his wife became
avid golfers and dedicated much of their time sharing their love
of the game with others including the Grand Valley Junior Golf
Association. Dennis loved to fish the Grand Mesa and could
find enjoyment watching any sport event, especially Colorado
teams.
All who knew Dennis could appreciate his selflessness and ability
to lift their spirits and touch their hearts. He could always be
counted on for an intellectual conversation, a good joke, story
and great advice in difficult situations.
Dennis is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years,
Marilyn. He is survived by his son, Dan (Darlene) Scott; Linda
(Lot) Robinson, and Karen Freeburg; his sister, Norma
Cozzette; brother, Gary (Diana) Scott; grandchildren, Michelle
Robinson, Tyler Robinson, Ben Petty, Stephen Wilson, Mark
Wilson; great-grandchildren, Kylie and Levi Petty; many family
members and lifelong friends.
We cherish the memories - he will live forever in our hearts.
Grand Valley Combined Honor Guard will conduct graveside
services on Saturday, June 6th at 10:00 a.m., at Grand Junction
Memorial Gardens, 2970 North Ave., Grand Junction, CO
81501.
