Richard Wayne Williams, III
March 9, 1928 - December 28, 2014
It is with a heavy heart we announce that Richard "Dick" W. Williams, III left this Earth to be with his maker on December 28, 2014.
His life was full of adventure, family and friends. He was born and raised in Girard, Ohio, the oldest of two boys.
He fell in love with flying at a very young age and never lost
that love, being a private pilot for over 50 years. Besides
aviation he loved fishing and camping.
In 1946, he joined the Army Air Corps, specializing in radio
communications and avionics. While stationed at Randolph Air Base in San Antonio, Texas, he met and fell in love with Jane Sunderman. They married on June 20, 1949, and loved each other for 65 years.
After discharge from military service, Dick attended
Milwaukee School of Engineering. He was employed with
Chance-Vought Aircraft, moved to Dallas, Texas and then to
Edwards Air Force Base in California. The family moved to Los Angeles where he worked for North American Aviation. He accepted a position with Martin Company in Denver. There, he worked doing research, design, and development of instrumentation and telemetry. Dick was a project engineer for installation of underground missiles in Colorado and South
Dakota.
The family moved to Denver in 1958 where he fell in love with
Colorado and the Rocky Mountains. After retiring, Dick and
Jane moved to Grand Junction, Colorado and still live at the
same location. Besides his love of flying and fishing, he loved
woodworking. He was an active member of the Redlands
Methodist Church, and handmade the pulpit and chancel
furniture for the church.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Jane; two sons, Richard "Rick" W. Williams, IV,(Deona), and Greg A. Williams.
He also leaves behind two grandsons, and four greatgrandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Dick holds four patents personally and obtained several
patents with Fisher Research Laboratories, Inc., while he was
Engineering Manager.
