Robert (Bob) G. Walker, formerly of Eagle, died of pulmonary fibrosis Feb. 21 at his home in Sierra Vista, Ariz. He was 79 years old.
Bob worked in the wholesale grocery business in Minnesota for 34 years. He came to Colorado in 1986 to ski untouched powder in the back bowls. This was his dream.
Bob was the Over the Hill Gang leader for eight years. He loved wood carving. Each of his children and many friends and relatives treasure one of his carvings. He especially loved carving birds and animals.
Bob was very active in the Eagle County Historical Society. He was personally responsible for much of the work done to recreate the Avon Store at Chamber Park in Eagle.
In 2001, due to ill health, Bob was forced to leave his beloved mountains and move to a drier, warmer climate in Arizona.
Bob is survived by his wife Louise Walker, their children Bob Walker of Newton, N.J. Mona Gillett of Chaska, Minn., Ron Walker of Fairview, N.C., Roxanne Rowan of Shakopee, Minn., Ray Walker of Sanibel, Fla., Shelle Walker of McCoy, Roger Walker of Everett, Wash. and 13 grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Southeastern Arizona in Sierra Vista.

Robert T. Walker Jr., 92, of Denver, Colorado passed away May 31, 2014. He was born October 8, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Robert and Mary (Williams) Walker. Rob had one brother and two sisters, Woodville (Bud) Walker, Elizabeth (Eli) Thurston, and Alida Nielsen. He was a graduate of West High School. He attended the University of Utah and graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He moved to Colorado where he met the love of his life, Janet Robinson.
Rob asked Janet to marry him September 11, 1943. He then joined the Air Force and served in the European Theater in World War II. He was a Staff Sargent and served as a specialty chemical technician and the Unit’s photographer until November 4, 1945.
Rob and Janet were married September 20, 1945 in Leadville, CO. They were married for 68+ wonderful years. They had 5 daughters, Susan Walker Maule, Barbara Bratton, Patricia Knox, Sharon Stackhouse and Robynn Thomas. They have 16 grandchildren, Shandel Nolan, Loren Nolan, Joseph Walker, Adam Walker, Christopher Bratton, Lori Bratton, Gail Sovick, Beth Lambe, Gregory Knox, Laura Turk, Josh Stackhouse, Daniel Stackhouse, Jessica Stackhouse, Joshua Thomas, Joslyn Coleman, and Whitney Carpenter. They have 13 great-grandchildren, Bethany Nolan, Jordan Nolan, Scott Bratton, Sean Bratton, Walker Joe Sovick, Olive Stackhouse, Daisy Stackhouse, Kaine Smith, Hudson Coleman, Aiyana Coleman, Eurydice Thomas, Gwendolynn Carpenter, and baby Stackhouse (due this September). Rob was quite a family man.
Rob and Jane started their new life by moving to New Jersey, where Rob worked at the New Jersey Die Company. They lived there for 10 years, moving back to Colorado with their four daughters. They bought their home, at 4115 W. Floyd Avenue, and welcomed their fifth daughter that year. Rob purchased two companies over the years, Service Supply Company and Brand-It Decal.
Rob had many interests, including classical music, history, travel, camping, stamp collecting, spending time with his family at the family cabin, politics, which included two runs for the State House of Representatives. Rob really liked swimming, and helped the community build the Terrace Club, which served the community for many years as a place for families to go enjoy the summer days. Rob was always delighted to participate in the Fourth of July fireworks display at the Terrace Club.
Tradition and family time were very important to Rob. Whether it was roasting marshmallows or singing songs at the campfire, or setting treasure hunts for the girls, and carving jack-o-lanterns. The most unique tradition, which started with his grandfather, Joseph Walker, was magic walnuts, containing notes, telling the girls where the presents were hidden on Christmas morning.
One of his lifetime wishes was to find the unmarked grave of his grandfather, Joseph Walker, who was the first secret service agent killed in a field investigation, in Durango, Colorado, in 1907. He was able to buy a headstone, and have a memorial celebration for his grandfather at Fairmount Cemetery.
Rob loved animals. He had many dogs and a cat. His latest dog is Duke, and he would not let a day go by without taking him for a walk.
Rob had a strong commitment to his Savior, Jesus Christ, helping to establish a Methodist Church in New Jersey, and attending Grace Point Community Church for many years, where he served as a Deacon, and several other committees.
Rob and Janet traveled widely, sharing the United States with their children and grandchildren with a pop-up camper, visiting many of the National Parks and sharing the beauty of nature. They graduated to an Air Stream, which they dearly loved. They also were able to see New Zealand, Alaska, took a cruise through the Panama Canal and visited the Holy Land. On a European trip they were able to visit Utah Beach where he landed during the Normandy Invasion.
Rob was a lover of life and lived his life to the fullest. He was loved and treasured by his family, and many good friends. He taught core values of what family means and is leaving behind a legacy of that love.
He will be missed.
A memorial will be held Saturday, June 7th, at 11am, at Grace Point Community Church, 90 E. Orchard Rd., Littleton, CO. 80121.
