Yampa resident Angel "Al" Luque Figueroa died in a vehicle accident Aug. 23, 2007. He was 68.
He was born to Angel and Maria (Luque) Figueroa on Nov. 21, 1938, in Phoenix, Ariz. He graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1957. From there, he served in the U.S. Navy for six years. On Sept. 29, 1972, he was united in marriage to Marralee A. Settle. On April 9, 1980, they were blessed with a daughter, Lisa Marie. Al worked as a parts salesman for Sanderson Ford in Phoenix for 40 years. In December 1999, they moved to the Yampa Valley to be near their daughter. He then began working at Napa in Steamboat Springs. In January 2003, Al retired. Shortly afterwards, he began working part-time at Ace at the Curve, which led to his favorite job of roasting green chilies in front of the store until the time of his death.
Al and Marralee attended church at Anchor Way Baptist Church in Steamboat Springs. His family was his first love. He especially loved spending time with his two grandchildren, Bailey, 7, and Tristan, 6. He also enjoyed working on his yard and visiting with everyone.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and one brother.
Al is survived by his wife, Marralee; daughter, Lisa and her husband, Gary Singer, and their two children, Bailey and Tristan, all of Yampa; two sisters of Arizona; one brother of Arizona; and numerous other relatives.
