Dallas Cornick “D” Henessee, 71, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack Aug. 14, 2010, at his home in Wichita, Kan. He was born in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, to Darrell and Maxine (Cornick) Henessee on March 29, 1939. He moved with his family in May 1954, when they bought the Valley View Lodge on Rabbit Ears Pass. Dallas graduated from Steamboat Springs High School in 1958.
The next summer, he enlisted in the Navy and was a Naval veteran and lifelong learner with an unquenchable thirst for adventure. His fascination for knowledge of ancient and military history was reflected across years of extensive travel to at least 33 countries, and he had a library of more than 1,000 books.
After his retirement from Boeing Aircraft Co. in Wichita, he contributed tirelessly to the B-29 “Doc” Restoration Project. He will be fondly remembered for his extraordinarily practical, decisive nature and his “go for it” attitude for life.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; two children; two stepsons; and four grandchildren, all of Kansas; brother Tom and his wife, Catherine; sister Mary Alice Chaffin, of Loveland; brother Marc, of Grand Junction; and nieces and nephews.
