Kendra Lynn Palmer, 61, died July 28, 2012, in Rifle. She passed away at home with her husband by her side.
Kendra was born Aug. 29, 1950, in Glenwood Springs to Robert L. and Patricia Ament Simillion. She was the third child in the family.
The family was living in Lafayette, where her father was a Colorado State Patrol officer. When Kendra was 2 her mother passed away of bulbar polio. In order for her father to continue his work, Kendra and Alan lived with Grandmother Mary and Aunt Pamela in Glenwood Springs.
Kendra completed kindergarten in Glenwood Springs. Her father was transferred to Meeker, where he could be nearer to his children. He later married Dannette Arnold and the family was reunited. Kendra completed her elementary education in Meeker.
Her father was then transferred to Steamboat Springs, where she attended Routt County schools and graduated from Steamboat Springs High School. She was a cheerleader for the Sailors and participated in the gymnastics program. She was an excellent skier and had many friends. She served as Worthy Advisor of Rainbow Girls of the Elk Mountain Masonic Lodge No. 118.
She attended Mesa College in Grand Junction, where she met and married Milt Parks. They lived in Evergreen. They had one son, Robert Forrest Parks. They later divorced.
She continued working in the Denver area until she moved to Carbondale, where she worked for the Mt. Sopris Water and Sewer District. She went on to become the manager of File Finders in Glenwood Springs and then managed the New Castle Senior Housing Complex.
While living in Carbondale, she met and married Douglas Joseph Palmer. Together they enjoyed camping and the outdoors. They were involved in the Carbondale VFW.
Kendra was a free spirit who loved to visit with her aunts and cousins in the area. She had a wonderful smile and made friends easily. She had a very tender heart and missed her two brothers who preceded her in death. She kept her mother’s picture near her in her room.
She loved watching the Food Channel on TV and became a very good cook. She was a regular at any garage sale and loved to shop at vintage and secondhand shops, always looking for a real deal.
Kendra is survived by her husband, Douglas, of Rifle; her father, Robert L. Simillion, and wife, Carol, of St. George, Utah; her son, Robert Forrest Parks, and wife, Tracy, of Denver; her grandchildren, Lilly, Garrett and Nick; numerous cousins; and Uncle Walt Borla, of Helper, Utah. She also leaves behind her two cats, Meow Meow and Sammy.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia; brothers Alan and Patrick; her sister; her stepmother, Dannette; her grandparents; and aunts and uncles.
A graveside memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Aug. 11 at Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs. She will be buried with her mother and sister Geri in the Glenwood Springs Rose Bud Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rifle Funeral Home. Online condolences can be submitted at www.riflefuneralhome.com.
