PETE ALLENS GRANDSON KILLED IN ACCIDENT

Patrick Zink, 17, of Longmont was killed instantly Saturday afternoon 4 1/2 miles west of Lyons in St. Vrain Canyon when his car plunged several hundred feet to the floor of the canyon. He was thrown from the car and received a fractured skull and crushed chest.

His car failed to make a curve and went off the south shoulder of the road, over a cliff and was airborne for 75 feet. It struck several boulders, continued down the canyon wall and went airborne for another 60 feet, then rolled at least twice before coming to rest on its wheels in the gulch.

Pat was the best man at the wedding of his brother, Mike, the night before. Saturday he had been hiking in the mountains and was on his way home. He was a senior at Longmont high school.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Totten of Longmont and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Allen of Bond. He stayed with his grandparents several years and attended school in McCoy.

Funeral services were held Tuesday in Longmont and burial was at Mountain View Cemetery there. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and one sister, four grandparents and three great grandparents.
