The Reverend John L. Aylward died at Holy Trinity Rectory, Colorado Springs on Friday, March 22, 1963.
Father Aylward was born Nov. 5, 1924, in Wallace, Idaho. He made his philosophical and theological studies at St. Thomas Seminary, Denver. He was ordained June 4, 1949 by the Most Rev. Urban J. Vehr in Denver, Colorado.
Father Aylward was appointed assistant pastor of St. Louis Church, Englewood in June of 1949 and in August 1957 was appointed pastor of St. Patrick's Parish, Minturn. He was named founding pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Colorado Springs in August 1959, where he was serving when he died.
Solemn Requiem Mass was offered at Holy Trinity Church in the Springs March 25. Pontifical Requiem Mass was offered in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Denver March 26. Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Denver.
Father Aylward was also pastor at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Red Cliff and St. Mary's in Eagle.
