Vauna CLARK, long-time resident of the Steamboat Springs area, passed away at the Glen Valley Rest Home in Glenwood Springs, Colorado on January 2, 1968. She was 89 years old at the time of her death.
Vauna HILL was born to Mr. and Mrs. James Albert HILL in Loda, Illinois, on December 9, 1878. She grew up as a city girl, helping in her father's grocery store and seeking to be of help to others.
In Paxton, Illinois, on October 9, 1904, she was married to Perry A. CLARK who was already a resident of Routt county. The city girl came to Wolcott, Colorado as a bride by train and then to her new home by stage coach to be welcomed by a western-style shivaree.
The CLARK home was always open to help those in need, particularly young people. They were often called upon for advice and counsel in affairs of pocketbook or heart.
Retiring from the ranch in Routt county, Colorado in 1946, they made their home in Rifle until their deaths. Preceded by her husband, who passed away on May 14, 1965, she entered the Glen Valley Rest Home on June 1, 1967 where she remained for the past seven months.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Sarah CRAIG of Steamboat Springs, two nieces and three nephews.
Services conducted by the Rev. Arthur Goodrich were held on Saturday January 6 at 2:00 p.m. in the Root Mortuary chapel.
Mrs. Muriel Bowen, accompanied by Maxine Ohman on the organ, sang "The Old Rugged Cross."
Pallbearers were Archie WOOD, Alex URQHART and Lynn HILL, all of Rifle, and Ed TRULL, Ralph BELTON and John SANDELIN of Steamboat. Honorary pallbearers were Clarence LIGHT, Carl SANDELIN and Tom WILLIAMSON.
Interment was in the Steamboat Springs Cemetery.
