Our cherished son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend Brandon Charles Merritt passed away suddenly and peacefully in his sleep Feb. 2, 2011.

He moved with his family to Edwards in 2007. A huge sports fan, Brandon could tell you statistics about almost any sports team, but he especially loved his University of Miami Hurricanes and Boston Red Sox. You could always find him with his green Boston Red Sox hat on anywhere in town. Brandon worked for Beaver Creek Resort in the winter scanning tickets at the bottom of Chair 6 and worked at both Sonnenalp Golf Course and Cordillera Valley Club as a part of the Outdoor Services in the summer. A man always concerned with guest services, he provided a warm smile and a good joke to every guest he came into contact with. He loved the mountains that surround us and never missed a chance to enjoy all that this beautiful valley has to offer. He was lucky enough to enjoy a slower-paced life, therefore truly taking in all the beauty we usually overlook. Brandon was a sweet, kind old soul. His respect and love for nature and animals was enormous. He would watch a mosquito bite him, in awe, rather than swat it away.

He is survived by his parents, Debbie and Ralph; sisters Stephanie and Jessica; his grandfathers Grandpa Ron and Grandpa Ralph; his aunts and uncles Bobbie and Michael, Sharon and Kevin, and Chris and Chris; his cousins Sammie, Adam, Emily, Grace, Katie and Sarah; his puppy Cooper; and many, many good friends.

A celebration of his life will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at the Beaver Creek Chapel. In the Jewish tradition, the Merritt family welcomes you to their home immediately following the service through Tuesday night to sit shiva. We will be meeting at the Bailey Funeral Home at noon Sunday in Leadville and traveling to the Leadville Hebrew Cemetery together for the burial.

The family requests that donations be made to the Children's Tumor Foundation at www.ctf.org
