A History of Chaffee County Schools, 1860-1986, was researched and organized by the Chaffee County Extension Homemaker Council. The history includes schools in Lake County, which encompassed what is now Chaffee County, prior to 1880. Dixie and Leon Stanton reminisce about the downtown businesses that populated F Street during the 1960s and 70s. Leon was the extension agent for Chaffee County and remembers 4H and his crew, including Bernice Miller, who helped out during fairs. Dixie sang in the Methodist Church choir and also worked for Bob Biglow's surveying company.
